Rug Care

Note:

Please note that, due to the nature of handmade rugs, no two rugs will be the same and there will be variations. The silk in the rug is delicate and should be treated like any other silk item. We do not recommend excessive vacuuming or using one with a beater head, as it will pull out delicate fibres. This fibre is not suitable for excessive high traffic areas.

Care Instructions

  1. Call a carpet cleaning professional if in doubt.
  2. Vacuum regularly to prevent dust and crumbs from settling into roots of fibres.  Do  not use a powerhead, as the aggressive brush will cause damage to the pile – rug pile is not designed to tolerate the motorised force.
  3. Use rug protectors under heavy furniture to avoid flattening of pile.
  4. Remove spills immediately: if it is a liquid spill, blot it with a clean undyed cloth by pressing firmly around the spill to absorb as much as possible.
  5. Shedding of loose fibres is normal with wool rugs and is a natural result of being handmade. The longer the pile, the higher the rate of shedding. Hand-knotted rugs shed less than hand-tufted rugs.
  6. Shedding will diminish with regular vacuuming and proper care, typically after three to six months.
  7. Sprouting is a normal characteristic of a handmade rug, and not a flaw. If sprouting occurs, use scissors to clip each piece of yarn at the same level as the rest of the rug. Do not pull out the yarn, as this may cause damage to the rug.
